Hugh Masekela Philharmonic Hall, 1967
$250.00
DESCRIPTION

Although I did this in the early seventies, it still has a lot of the sixties in it.

size: 23 1/2 x 37 3/4”

*Previously listed as hailing from 1972, we've recently discovered this poster was actually produced for a performance in 1967. This has been confirmed by a variety of sources, including a notice about the (then) upcoming performance in an April 1967 issue of Jet magazine; the poster's appearance in a publication dating prior to 1972 (The Push Pin Style, published in 1970), as well as Lincoln Center's own records indicating Hugh Masekela performed there in 1967 and 1968, but not in 1972. The same artwork was repurposed for a 1973 album cover by Masekela which was the likely cause of the date's confusion so many years later.

As it turns out, Milton's above quote about the poster's anachronistic design is technically incorrect, but it seems inappropriate to change it at this point.
